I don’t know if this is true but supposedly the average screen time of children is now up to 7 hours a day. If it is true that our children now spend an average of 7 hours staring at a screen, then we might not be that far off anymore from what is described in the movie, Surrogates, starring Bruce Willis. (The story plays in the near future where people live their lives free of pain, danger, and complications through robotic representations of themselves called surrogates.)
If we look at the situation in our current society, we can identify countless problems and issues such as disrespect, intolerance, overwhelming egoism and individualism to the disadvantage over others. Anger and violence on one side while we have helpless snowflakes on the other side.
And most of society is not pushing back enough against this overtake of virtual reality into the lives of our children. There are just so many areas where face to face, real reality, and person to person interaction cannot just be replaced with or through computers.
But if most of our children are already imprisoned through an online and electronic connection, then who will be the policeman of the future? Who will be the fireman, the doctor or nurse, teacher or counselor? Who will serve as the coach, cook, singer or athlete?
Do we really want to replace all of that with robots and electronic versions of ourselves? And even if most people are not waking up to it yet, would you really want to live in a world like that?
Just recently I stumbled upon a story where a 14-year-old child took her life as a result of promptings from a complete stranger via a messaging app she was using.
Her parents who she spent her evenings with had no idea of what she was doing in the privacy of her cell phone. Imagine your teenager having a stronger emotional attachment to a stranger in god knows where than you who are physically present.
First, more people need to raise their level of awareness and realize that it is time for us to wake up. Secondly, we must gain back the physical and mental strength, the absence of which has made our society weak. We have to learn again to accept failure, setbacks, injuries and even death as part of our everyday reality. We must admit that no virtual reality can protect us from the daily realities of living.
We need to learn to listen, get mentored and learn to mentor and pass on whatever strengths and qualities we have built up. We need to get empathy back into our lives, and we need to care for others again, understanding that our individualism can only go so far until it interferes with society.
Let me give you one possible mind-blowing answer.
Maybe, just maybe, because in a steel and electronic society mankind does not survive. Steel, metal and iron and our highly advanced electronics might never replace mother earth. Maybe these things have been figured out by hundreds, if not thousands, of generations before us already.
I know for a fact that there is one system that teaches everything a human being needs to self-develop. This system has built in the self-cultivation and self-development for an individual that is required to grow and blossom. At the same time, this system teaches love, care, and empathy that is needed within a community or society for its members.
I am sure you are quite curious as to what this great system is and where can it be found.
